Yoga Therapy for Post Covid

Recovering from Post-Covid is a long and frustrating process. Much is still unknown. What works is often a matter of trial and error.

Questions that arise are: How can you, best dose the little energy you have? What is possible? How do you use and expand your possibilities? Yoga therapy helps you with this. As a yoga therapist I explore with you how you are doing. We look, if you want, at the whole. So how do you feel physically, emotionally, mentally and with your breathing.

Together we look at which parts need extra attention, make a plan to support you in a tailored way.

During a yoga therapy session we do gentle breathing and/or movement exercises, within your capabilities. Even if you can barely move, we find what can be done. We do meditation and relaxation techniques. You also learn what you can do outside the session itself.

Yoga therapy can contribute to:

Reducing overstimulation. Post Covid affects the central nervous system. You notice this, for example, because you become overexcited or irritable more quickly. Yoga therapy helps calm and balance the central nervous system.

  • Giving insight into and feeling control over breathing
  • Moving consciously within possibilities
  • Learning to deal with stress/energy distribution
  • Learning to deal with frustration and impatience
  • Regaining some sense of control

Practical:

Yoga therapy can be done at your home or via zoom. So you don’t lose energy traveling. (My working area is Achterhoek and Twente, from Arnhem to Enschede).

It is an excellent complement to occupational therapy, physiotherapy and nutritionists.

The program is tailored to your specific needs and complaints. You determine the pace.

Testimonial:

I got covid at the end of December 2020. Not afraid of getting sick and confident in my recovery, it turned out to be not so easy. After several weeks of being very stuffy and short of breath, I just did not want to recover. As a yoga teacher with all the knowledge of breathing and the body seemed, I thought I could fix it on my own. This turned out to be very difficult. I noticed that the breathing no longer went so naturally, that there was a fear there. I also expected and wanted too much from my body, which was mostly very tired.

Then Carrie asked if I wanted to try restorative yoga. That meant a turnaround. Carrie is incisive and knew immediately how to put her finger on the sore spot. She took me all the way back to basics. Beyond everything I wanted and needed from myself. Through her guidance I managed to reconnect with my body. I started with a number of postures and breathing exercises, supported by pillows and Carrie’s voice. She focused on relaxation and awareness. She kept bringing me back to my breath. As a result, I became less short of breath/ stuffy. I have difficulty with concentration and overstimulation due to post covid. Carries way of teaching/coaching teaches me to focus and as a result there was more space and peace in my mind. She taught me not to over ask myself and to find the balance, to challenge myself with an eye on what is possible. She is very good at that; seeing/knowing what you need and putting that in a very realistic perspective.
Carrie is an expert by experience, you can tell. It’s nice to feel understood. That’s how I managed to rebuild my condition and concentration. Many thanks 🙏🏼
